INTRODUCTION:
The term APEDA is the abbreviation of the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). APEDA is a governmental agency created under the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Act of 1985. The purpose of the Act is to promote for the growth of industries based on a few scheduled food products, register the individuals as exporters and manage the market requirements for those scheduled products.

The said scheduled products, which are monitored by the APEDA Act, are listed below-
- Fruits, vegetables, and such other products.
- Meat and meat products.
- Poultry and poultry products.
- Dairy products.
- Honey, jaggery, and sugar products.
- Confectionery, biscuits, and bakery products.
- Cocoa and cocoa products, including different kinds of chocolates.
- Groundnuts, peanuts, and walnuts.
- Cereal and cereal products.
10. Pickles, papads, and chutneys.
11. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
12. Guar gum.
13. Herbal and medicinal plants.
14. Floriculture and floriculture products.
Besides these products, one of the vital responsibilities of the APEDA is to monitor the import of sugar.
All the above-mentioned products listed under the APEDA Act are called the scheduled products, and the person who wants to export such scheduled products are called the exporters. All the exporters shall get themselves registered under the APEDA Act.APEDA provides the financial support, information, and guidelines towards the development of those scheduled products.
FUNCTIONS:
The functions or responsibilities which are vested with the APEDA are as follows-
- It is necessary to do the Registration of the exporters of those scheduled products on payment of the prescribed fees.
- The development of those industries of scheduled products by offering financial assistance and also assistance in conducting surveys and studies, participation in enquiry capital through joint ventures, some other reliefs, and schemes.
- For export purposes, calibration of the standards and specifications for the scheduled products.
- Inspections of meat and meat products in the slaughterhouses, processing plants, storage premises, conveyance, and such other places where those products are kept safe by ensuring the standard and quality of the said products.
- The improvement of the marketing strategy of the scheduled products all over the world.
- The improvement of packaging of the scheduled products.
- For the purpose of exports, the promotion of the production, and the development of those scheduled products.
- Provide training in various aspects of the industry, which is closely connected with the scheduled products.
- The compilation of statistics on production, processing, packaging, sale, and export of the scheduled products. These personal data will be collected from the owners of factories or plants or from any individual as prescribed on any subject relating to the scheduled products. The data can also be obtained from the publication.

PROCESS OF REGISTRATION:
The applicant needs to submit an application form to get registered under the APEDA within a month from the date of undertaking the business.
The step by step procedure for the Registration under the APEDA is as follows-
Step 1: First, the applicant needs to register on the APEDA website.
Step 2: There, the applicant needs to click on the ‘Register as a Member’ option.
Step 3: Here, the applicant needs to enter all the necessary details such as the Import-Export Code, Email Address and Mobile Number, etc. Then, click on the Submit option.
Step 4: A One-Time Password or OTP would be sent to the registered Email Address and the Mobile Number of the applicant to confirm the details. The same will be needed to put in the field provided for the same on the verification screen. The applicant is required to click on the “Submit” option to continue.
Step 5 After the completion of the verification process, the online application has to be completed with valid information, and all the essential documents have to be uploaded. The documents should be uploaded in JPEG, PDF, or PNG formats.
Step 6: The said application will be completed in more than one session by visiting the page with the help of a valid OTP. When all the essential information have been successfully entered in its respective fields, the form has to be saved after that. The entered data can be edited until the payment is done online.
Step 7: The registration fee is Five Thousand Rupees excluding GST, and it can be made through any of the below mentioned modes of payment:
- Credit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
- Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
- Demand draft made in favour of the APEDA is payable at respective cities in cases of offline Registration. In cases of offline Registration, only the demand draft is accepted.
Step 8: Once the payment has been done successfully, an Application Number will be generated. This would be needed for future references.
Step 9: On issuance of the Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC), the login credentials will be sent to the applicant’s registered Email ID. The applicant may log in into the APEDA account by clicking on the Exporter Login tab that can be easily found on the APEDA homepage.
Step 10: Status of the said RCMC application can be viewed by clicking on the Track Application option and by submitting the Import-Export Code along with the unique Application Number.
Step 11: In case of presence of any error in the submitted application, the exporter will be asked to re-submit the application and documents online.
Step 12: The last step is the approval of the RCMC by the APEDA Officials. Once the approval is given, the Certificate may be obtained using the APEDA portal under the option of ‘View RCMC Certificate’ under the RCMC Menu.
If the exporter fails to register themselves in the given timeline with sufficient cause, the timeline will be extended by the concerned authority only.
After the successful completion of the required forms and payment of the requisite fees, the concerned authority will serve a Registration-cum-Membership-Certificate (RCMC). It is a one-time registration, and the rules and regulations under the APEDA Act govern the registered members.
CANCELLATION OF APEDA REGISTRATION:
The APEDA Registration can be cancelled in the following ways-
- If a person provides false information.
- In case of violation of any rules prescribed by the concerned authority.
- Any kind of contravention of any conditions clearly imposed in the Certificate of Registration.
- In case of non-performance of export of the scheduled product for twelve consecutive months.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR REGISTRATION:
For the purpose of Registration, the following documents are needed-
- Properly signed APEDA application form
- Copy of the Import Export Code (IEC) issued by the DGFT.
- Bank details and certifications are properly signed by the respective authorities.
- Bank account statement of the account of the said firm (last two months).
- Canceled cheque.
- In the case of a company, a certified copy of MOA should be provided, and in the case of a partnership firm, the partnership deed is needed.

For the Merchant Exporter i.e., the person only involved in trading, the essential documents are-
- Self-certified copy of the Importer Exporter Code (“IEC”)issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
- Canceled Cheque.
- Copy of Central Food License issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
For the Manufacturer Exporter i.e., the person involved in trading as well as manufacturing, the essential documents are-
- Self-certified copy of the Importer Exporter Code(IEC)issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
- Business Registration Certificate.
- Canceled Cheque.
- Central Food License.
ADVANTAGES OF REGISTRATION:
The APEDA Registration has some serious advantages or benefits, those are as follows-
